How we write a CODESYS program

On top of the rules every program of ours follows: one I/O map, one owner per output, a timeout on every wait.

  • The I/O mapping is one program on its own, so a moved wire is a one-line change.
  • The sequence is a CASE-based step chain in Structured Text: one step active, every wait with a timeout and a named alarm.
  • Settings sit in a PERSISTENT RETAIN variable list, with a default and an allowed range each, so they survive a power cut.
  • HMI tags are published through the Symbol Configuration, ready to import into EasyBuilder Pro or any OPC UA client.

How the free PLC program works

No meeting, no quotation, no payment. The sequence is the specification.

  1. STEP 01
    You describe the sequence
The PLC and software version, every input and output, then the steps in order: what the machine does, what it waits for, how long that may take, and what happens if it takes longer.
  2. STEP 02
We write it and test it
An engineer reads it, asks if anything is unclear, writes the program and runs it in the simulator against your sequence — a normal cycle, a sensor that never arrives, a stop mid-cycle.
  3. STEP 03
You get it in 3 days
By email: the project file for your software and version, the I/O, sequence and alarm lists, download and test notes — and the EPLAN or AutoCAD Electrical schematic if you asked for it.

03Inputs and outputs

One row per sensor, button, valve, motor or lamp. Use the terminal address if you know it (X0, I0.0, %IX0.0), or just a name. Say whether a sensor is PNP or NPN and NO or NC, and whether a valve is single or double solenoid.

04The sequence, step by step

One row per step, in order. What the machine does, what it then waits for, and how long that may take before it is a fault. A step that only waits can leave the first box empty; a pause needs only the time.

Free with the program: the panel's power and control circuits, PLC I/O wiring and terminal list, drawn from your I/O list.

07Where to send it
Free, with no obligation. Your sequence, I/O list and drawings are used only to write your program.

What you receive

  • The PLC project — the .project file for your CODESYS version, a PLCopen XML export of the same program, and a PDF printout.
  • A PDF printout of the program, to read and check before anything is downloaded.
  • The I/O list, with every address, name and device.
  • The sequence chart: each step, what it switches, what it waits for and its maximum time.
  • The alarm list, with the cause and what to check for each one.
  • Download and test notes: how to load it, settings to check, and the order to test it in.
  • The electrical schematic, if you asked for it — EPLAN Electric P8 (project backup and PDF) or AutoCAD Electrical (DWG and PDF).

It all comes by email to the address on the form, within 3 days. Anything too large to attach comes as a download link. Questions while you commission it go to free PLC support.

What the free program covers

One machine's sequence program on a CODESYS, Delta, Siemens or Omron controller, written from what you send, and the electrical schematic if you ask for it. Free, delivered in 3 days, with no obligation.

HMI screens, commissioning on site, fail-safe (safety PLC) programs, multi-axis motion and lines where several machines work together are quoted separately. If what you send needs one of those, we say so and give a fixed price before starting — never after.

Before the program moves a machine

The program is written and simulated from your description; a simulator does not know your wiring. It has to be commissioned on the machine by a qualified person — first with air and actuator power off, checking every input and output — and the emergency stop and guards must work in hardware, through a safety relay, not only in the program.

CODESYS PLC programming questions

Which CODESYS version do you write the program in?

The one you name on the form. A project saved in a newer CODESYS version asks to be upgraded, or will not open, in an older one — so we save it in yours, with the same library versions your device carries.

Can you program the CODESYS PLC inside a Weintek cMT HMI?

Yes — a Weintek cMT with built-in CODESYS and Modbus TCP remote I/O is the reference build of our own leak testers. The program comes with the symbol export EasyBuilder Pro imports for the screens, and the commissioning notes say to create the boot application after downloading: on these panels it is a separate step, and skipping it means the panel restarts into the old program.

Structured Text or ladder in CODESYS?

Either, or both. Structured Text suits sequences and calculations; ladder suits a maintenance team that reads ladder. Choose on the form, or leave it to us and we pick per part of the program and say why.

Is the PLC program really free?

Yes. Send your machine's sequence through the form and the program — and the electrical schematic, if you ask for one — is free, with no obligation to buy anything else. Helping first is how we earn the bigger jobs: new machines, retrofits and upgrades.

How long does it take?

3 days from the day we have your sequence. If something in it is unclear we ask first, by email or WhatsApp, and the 3 days run from your answer.

How is the program delivered?

By email to the address on the form: the project file in your software's own format and version, a PDF printout, the I/O list, the sequence and alarm lists, and notes on downloading and testing it. Files too large to attach come as a download link.

Can I get the electrical schematic as well?

Yes — choose EPLAN Electric P8 or AutoCAD Electrical on the form. It is drawn from your I/O list: the power and control circuits, PLC I/O wiring and the terminal list, as the drawing files and a PDF.

Will the program run my machine straight away?

It is written and simulated against your sequence, but a simulator does not know your wiring. It has to be commissioned on the machine by a qualified person — first with air and actuator power off, checking every input and output — and the emergency stop and guards must work in hardware, not only in the program. Questions while you commission it go to our free PLC support.

What is not part of the free program?

HMI screens, commissioning on site, fail-safe (safety PLC) programs, multi-axis motion, and lines where several machines work together are quoted separately. If what you send needs one of those, we say so and give a fixed price before starting — never after.

What happens to my sequence and drawings?

They are used only to write your program. We do not publish them, share them or reuse them for anyone else.

Have a job that a machine should be doing?

Send the part and the target output. You get a concept, a sequence and a budget range back — free, and with no obligation to build it with us.
